The Midwest Log Championships took place Saturday in Madison, Wi — and it was a big day for Coulee Region athletes both in the pro and amateur divisions.
Second year pro Connor Birdsong ripped through a difficult men’s field to take home his second pro victory. Birdsong, last year’s U.S. Open champ, again topped the men’s field at an early season tournament by defeating Anthony Polentini in a tight five fall finals match to lock up the win.
Rookie Livi Pappadopoulos came into the bracket without a rank. Her road to the finals included matches against several veteran pros including 2016 world champ Ellie Davenport. Pappadapoulos defeated Olivia Judd in the finals to take home her first pro title in the women’s field.
Also in the women’s field at Vilas Park in Madison, Katie Rick tied for fifth and sixth with five fall matches against both Judd and Davenport.
On the men’s front, Garrick Birdsong tied for fifth and sixth, Shane Burns tied for seventh and eighth, and Kody Koblitz tied for tenth and eleventh.
